Florida: Social Marketing Training

A two-day Social Marketing pre-conference (http://health.usf.edu/publichealth/csm/scc.htm) workshop on community-based social marketing June 13 - 14, 2012. The two-day workshop pre-conference workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to community-based social marketing and how it is being applied throughout the world to foster sustainable behavior. Those who attend the workshop will learn the five steps of community-based social marketing (selecting behaviors, identifying barriers, developing strategies, conducting pilots, and broad scale implementation), and will be exposed to numerous case studies illustrating its use. As such, this workshop provides an in-depth exposure to community-based social marketing and provides participants with the knowledge they need to design and evaluate their own community-based social marketing programs. Further, attendees will have extensive opportunities to discuss the application of community-based social marketing to the design of actual programs. At the end of the two days participants will have acquired sufficient knowledge to use community-based social marketing to develop successful programs to foster sustainable behavior. This workshop will be of interest to those working to promote waste reduction, water and energy efficiency, modal transportation changes, watershed protection, and other sustainable behavior changes. Those who work to promote behavioral changes that promote health, such as active lifestyles, will also benefit from attending. Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Training
July 31‐August 2, 2012
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Each Day

Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve
6005 Bayou Heron Road
Moss Point, MS 39562‐8097

This course is based on January 2011 publication "Scanning the Conservation Horizon - A Guide to Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment" to www.nwf.org/vulnerabilityguide). The guidance document is a product of an expert workgroup on climate change vulnerability assessment convened by the National Wildlife Federation in collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, National Park Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program.

This course is designed to guide conservation and resource management practitioners in two essential elements in the design of climate adaptation plans. Specifically, it will provide guidance in identifying which species or habitats are likely to be most strongly affected by projected changes; and understanding why these resources are likely to be vulnerable. Vulnerability Assessments are a critical tool in undertaking any climate change planning or implementation.

This workshop is free and registration will be open until June 29th. Fill out the PDF Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Course Registration Form and email it to Danielle LaRock: danielle_larock@fws.gov.
